A pensioner has issued a warning to Citizen readers to watch out for holiday promises she believes to be a scam.
The 78-year-old, who lives in the Wisbech area, received two telephone calls claiming she had won holidays and asking for a deposit.

Although she gave the caller no personal details, she said they knew all about her.

“They knew my name, address, age, date of birth and even my middle name,” said the pensioner.

As a result of the calls, she had to get her card cancelled as a precaution.

The first holiday promise call came on Wednesday evening when the caller claimed she had won a cruise to locations such as the Bahamas and Florida, saying she had won as a result of entering a competition two years ago. The second call was on Thursday morning and was again about winning a holiday.

The pensioner said she was asked for a deposit of £198 per person and could take up to three people with her. She was also asked if she had a Visa card.

The pensioner’s advice to anyone receiving a similar call is to put the phone down and not to give out any information.
